AC Maintenance in Hermann, MO

AC maintenance in Hermann belongs on the calendar in spring, before the first 90°F stretch finds the weak part. A tune-up covers the coils, electrical connections, refrigerant level, drain and blower, and you hear what we found before any extra work is quoted.

What each AC maintenance visit includes

Every tune-up should cover the items on ENERGY STAR's checklist. Use this as your list, for us or for anyone else.

Part of the systemWhat gets done
Thermostat and controlsSettings verified, and the start, run and shutoff cycle confirmed
ElectricalConnections tightened, motor voltage and current measured
Outdoor unitCondenser coil cleaned, debris cleared, moving parts lubricated
Indoor unitEvaporator coil cleaned, blower cleaned and adjusted for airflow
RefrigerantLevel checked against the specification
DrainCondensate line and pan inspected and cleared
FilterChecked, with a look at the size and schedule that suit your system
Technician's hands tightening an electrical connection inside an AC condenser
Heat and vibration loosen connections, so a tune-up tightens them.

Why book an AC tune-up in spring?

Spring work finds problems while there is still time to fix them on your schedule. The Department of Energy says annual maintenance can improve comfort and efficiency and extend the unit's life. ENERGY STAR adds that too much or too little refrigerant makes a system less efficient and shortens its life.

Hermann gives that advice extra weight. With 27.6 days a year past 90°F (BestPlaces), run times are long, and river-valley humidity keeps the coil wet and the drain working. Cottonwood fluff and yard debris build up on the outdoor coil over the same weeks. Keeping that coil clean is plain housekeeping, and it is cheaper than a compressor.

Tune-up, coil cleaning or do-it-yourself: how they compare

These are three different levels of care, and most homes need the first and third every year.

How the visit goes

  1. We ask what you noticed last season, and check the thermostat.
  2. We shut off power at the disconnect, then open and clean the outdoor unit.
  3. We tighten connections and test the electrical components.
  4. We inspect the indoor coil, blower and filter.
  5. We clear the drain line and check the pan.
  6. We restore power, run the system and check the cooling performance and refrigerant level.
  7. We tell you what we found and quote anything beyond the tune-up before starting it.

What a tune-up does not cover

A tune-up is inspection and cleaning, so some work stays outside it:

  • Replacement parts, such as a capacitor or contactor
  • Finding and repairing refrigerant leaks, or the refrigerant itself
  • Duct cleaning or duct repair
  • Upgrades such as a new thermostat or filter cabinet

It also cannot promise a breakdown-free summer. If something fails, go to our AC repair page. Refrigerant handling is regulated federally: under EPA Section 608, technicians working on this equipment must be certified, so request the card from anyone you hire.

What does an AC tune-up cost?

For St. Louis, Angi's 2026 tune-up range is $125 to $200, and Fixr's January 2026 national range for central AC maintenance is $70 to $200. Those are outside figures, not our prices. Heavy coil soiling, poor access and travel can all move the number, so request a clear, upfront quote when you book.

Why Brian Grannemann Services for your spring AC visit

  • Donna M. described our work as "very thorough," with safety precautions to match, and that is what a checklist visit needs.
  • "Consistently shows up when promised" is how Stephanie H. put it, and that matters when you are arranging your day around a visit.
  • We fix what we inspect, so a problem found in April does not need a second company.
  • Our office has been in Hermann since 1998, at 124 E 10th St, with hours Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.

Booking ahead, close to home or farther out

AC Maintenance questions

How often does an air conditioner need a tune-up?

Once a year is the normal schedule. The Department of Energy recommends annual maintenance and a yearly check of the evaporator coil. Around Hermann that means spring, before long run times start. A system in a dusty spot, such as beside a gravel road or a hay field, may need its coil looked at more often.

Do you offer an AC maintenance plan?

Ask the office what is available now. We do not publish a plan, membership or plan pricing on this site, so do not take a figure from anywhere else as ours. If you just want a reminder each spring, call in late winter and book the visit ahead of the first warm stretch.

Can I clean my own outdoor coil?

Yes, gently. Turn the power off at the disconnect and the thermostat first, then rinse the fins from a garden hose, and skip the pressure washer because it bends them. Clear leaves and clippings from around the base. Anything inside the electrical compartment belongs to a technician, along with the indoor coil and the refrigerant circuit.

Does a tune-up include adding refrigerant?

A tune-up checks the level. Adding refrigerant is separate work, because a low charge means a leak, and the EPA advises having leaks found and fixed rather than topping off. If the reading is low we will tell you, explain the options and quote any repair before going further.

What is the right month for a seasonal AC check in Hermann?

Aim for April or May. The first long hot stretch is when marginal capacitors and dirty coils give up, and a late-spring cottonwood release can coat the outdoor coil soon after. Booking early also gets you ahead of the calls that come in once everyone turns the system on.

Should a landlord schedule AC maintenance for a rental?

Yes, and put the filter on your list too. About 34.7% of housing units in Hermann are rented, and a tenant may not change a filter or report a slow drain until something fails. Tell us who has access and when, and keep the visit notes with the unit's service records.
